Thirty students attended the field day. Prior to the field day, each student had to take and pass a DNR certified online Hunter Safety course and bring to the class a printout of their successful online test results.

On Saturday Mother Nature threw us a curve providing us with an abundant amount of rain (downpours) for the majority of the day. One might think this would dampen the spirits of the students and instructors but not the case, everyone rallied and adapted to the conditions.

Fortunately due to the layout and size of the rooms at the OSC we were able to move many of the educational stations inside. Of course, we weren’t able to move the shooting or tree stand stations inside. Yet, we were able to move all testing inside which made everyone happy.

All 30 students did extremely well. On the written test, all students scored 95% or better with 20 obtaining a 100% score. For the field test, 24 students achieved a 100% score with everyone achieving 90% or better. During the Field Test, students must provide correct responses on and demonstrate their safe firearm handling knowledge and skills.

Once again we received positive comments about the Oregon Sportsman’s Club facilities and how well the grounds are maintained.

Attached is a picture with a portion of the graduates, many had to depart immediately following class to make other engagements.

The Madison Area Safe Hunters Instructor Team appreciates the Oregon Sportsman’s Club support of hunter safety and the use of its facilities. This type of support is very important as we grow our future hunters.

Thank you,
